Mobius - Explained: Insights and visualization

Learn about the visualization tools available in Mobius to analyze your LCA results

Written by Sunny Chen

Understanding your Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) results is easier when you can see them clearly. Mobius' Insights tab brings all visualization tools together in one place.

This article covers the following questions:

  1. What visualization tools are available?

  2. How to change the impact category?

  3. Next steps.

What is the Insights tab?

The Insights tab is your central hub for visualizing LCA results in Mobius. Open it from your product to access three visualization tools in one place:

  • Donut chart — contribution of each item to total impact

  • Bar chart — comparison of impact across objects

  • Impact table — detailed breakdown per item

Pro tip - Download results for a specific view: Download results for any visualization available in Mobius in an Excel fileimage or PDF format to use in presentations or reports using the download table button (Figure 1).

  • Donut chart: Shows the contribution of each impact item to the total impact, helping identify key areas of concern. If you find this view particularly useful (i.e., for communication purposes), download your product footprint for a simple one-page PDF with the donut chart and other relevant information about your model (go to Tools Download product footprint (PDF)).

Pro tip - Comparing views with other products: You can compare views between products using the Compare button (Figure 2). This feature is available for every view in Mobius. Learn more about product comparisons here.

  • Bar chart: Displays impact values for all objects with impact attached to them using horizontal bars, allowing for a quick comparison between different hotspots or objects that contribute the most impact to the LCA model. In this view, you have the additional feature of filtering for objects you want to focus on (e.g., items with the greatest environmental impact). Use the filter feature in Mobius to do so (Figure 3).

  • Impact table: Presents environmental impact results for the lowest-level sub-items in your product inventory — any objects with an impact value (via dataset or custom impact) attached to them. The table aggregates objects, so items used multiple times in your model are combined into one row with an aggregated impact value. Switch between percentage and numeric view using the switch view button (Figure 4).

  • Stacked chart (Comparison and Scenario modes only): The stacked chart is available exclusively when using the Comparison or Scenario features. It visualizes environmental product performance at a glance and supports storytelling around impact reduction. The table title updates automatically to reflect the impact category you have selected — so what you see always matches your current analysis.

  • Impact per item table (Comparison and Scenario modes only): Below the stacked chart, a detailed impact per item table breaks down results side by side across the products or scenarios you are comparing. For each item, the table shows the amount, unit, and impact category value, along with a bar indicating its relative contribution. This makes it easy to spot exactly where differences between your products or scenarios occur (Figure 6).

Note - Visualization outside of Mobius: This article focuses on the visualization tools available in Mobius. However, all results can be exported to Excel, where you have the freedom to personalize your results to your needs. (e.g., graphs, charts, tables).

How to change the impact category?

Mobius displays results for one impact category at a time. To check or change the impact category, find the impact category switcher in the top right corner of the Product overview page (Figure 7). Choose from the impact categories visible in the dropdown list. The impact categories available depend on the Impact settings set for your Workspace.
